About DataMosaik
DataMosaik came about as an effort to engage the structural challenges connected to the digitalisation of works of art and creative outputs. DataMosaik is led by Kristian Mortensen and Åsmund Trolle Boye Lindquist-Kverneland. We combine cultural-sector/creative industries knowledge, analytical mapping and practical consulting to help institutions and decision-makers turn fragmented data landscapes into usable infrastructure.
Our role is to help make cultural data problems fixable. Thats why we map who holds the data, where the identifiers break, which metadata are missing, and what can realistically be the next step.
People
DataMosaik is deliberately small and senior-led. The work is based on close analysis, direct stakeholder dialogue and clear translation from data problems to operational decisions and policy development.

Åsmund works as an advisor and project leader/developer. In DataMosaik he works to connect analysis, business development, policy development and strategic partnerships between stakeholders in and around the cultural and creative sector.
Together, Kristian and Åsmund work across research, interviews, data-source mapping, governance design and communication. The shared focus is to make data infrastructure improvements concrete enough to guide decisions, investments and pilots.
DataMosaik is not based on abstract ambitions. We start with existing systems, institutional constraints and real workflows, then identifies the minimum changes needed to improve interoperability, insight and cultural value.
Practice
We work with cultural institutions, IP organisations, ministries, public actors and sector bodies where data is shaped by policy, practice, copyright, preservation and public value.
We focus increasing the understanding of data identifiers, metadata, APIs, standards, data quality and governance - the layers that determine whether cultural data can actually be reused and exchanged.
We turn interviews, desk research and technical mapping into reports, policy briefs, roadmaps and pilot designs that can support concrete action.
We distinguish between what should ideally exist and what can be tested first: minimum viable metadata, limited pilots, trusted partners and phased governance.
Why it matters
DataMosaik works in the space between cultural expertise and technical infrastructure. The goal is not to replace existing systems, but to clarify how they can connect through shared metadata, governance, identifiers and incentives.
Identify data sources, actors, dependencies, standards and data gaps.
Separate structural barriers from local or temporary problems.
Translate findings into governance models, metadata profiles and pilot pathways.
Make the implications clear for decision-makers, funders and sector partners.
